Sample Diabetic Meal Plan

Seeking guidance from a dietician or nutritionist will provide fundamental knowledge of how food affects glucose levels.Diabetic Meal Plan Meal plans are created based on individual calorie needs, blood sugar ranges, and activity level, as well as, height, weight, and overall health.

Meals should be consumed about the same time each day.

A diabetic meal plan will typically consist of three main meals and two-to-three snacks throughout the day.

 

The following diabetic meal plan is based on 1,400 to 1,600 calories per day.

Breakfast can consist of one cup of orange juice, two slices of whole-grain toast, one egg, and one cup of nonfat milk.

Lunch can consist of eight ounces of vegetable soup, turkey or chicken sandwich on whole-wheat bread, one once of turkey or chicken, one ounce of cheese, and one teaspoon of mayonnaise, one small piece of fruit, and eight ounces of tea or coffee sweetened with artificial sweetener.

Evening meal can be 3-4 ounces of lean meat, half a baked potato, one cup of cooked vegetables, and eight ounces of tea or coffee sweetened with artificial sweetener.
Food Group
Mid morning, afternoon, and evening snacks can be one small piece of fruit or half a cup of raw vegetables, crackers, three cups of plain popcorn, four ounces sugar free pudding, or one ounce of low-fat cheese.
